About Me

Life is a journey of relationships. Your child’s relationships begin at home with your family and it continues into their friends, teachers and staff at school.

Positive relationships are the cornerstone that underpins our quality of life and inviting someone in to share this is a very personal thing. So here‘s a little about myself…

Parent. Teacher. Coach.

The Personal Side

I am a firm believer that we should never set a ceiling on what a child can achieve. My philosophy on education is shaped as much by my life outside the classroom as my fifteen years within it. As a family man, I believe that strong values and a supportive home are the true path for a child’s success. Although a lot of our child’s development is under the control and influence of others, school being a huge part of this educationally, many studies indicate that the home influence wins hands down in every case – the influence of parents far outweighs everything else. This is why I have started Family Education Coaching – to empower you!

My personal life is defined by a love for challenge and a curiosity about the world and the people within it. Whether I’m training to swim the English Channel (my current challenge – to swim the butterfly leg of a Channel Medley Relay!) or to run a marathon, I have learned that grit and resilience are attributes we must help children develop.

Success is a personal thing and means different things to different people. Whatever it means to you and your family, I hope to unpick this and work alongside you for the benefit of your child’s future, and yours. Success also has different time scales but within Family Education Coaching, I aim to develop the self-belief and confidence they need for the long haul. I don’t believe in quick fixes; I believe in sustainable growth.

I love being outdoors and exploring the wildlife and natural beauty of Devon. There are so many positive mental and physical benefits of being outdoors and it’s great family time together. At the weekends, my wife and I try hard to spend quality time together as a family but also balance this with our children’s interests, and our own. My wife and I coach our daughter’s football team so most weekends are spent on the sidelines as football coaches or cheering amongst the other parents at our son’s football.

I understand the pressures of modern parenting because I’m living them too. I know that when we nurture a child’s natural curiosity and confidence alongside their academics, we aren’t just helping them pass a test—we are opening doors to a lifetime of opportunity.

The Professional Side

I have spent the last 15 years teaching in a variety of primary schools around the Exeter area, including larger city schools and small rural schools. My career has been spread across Key Stages 1 and 2 and has given me a deep, understanding of how children learn and develop their reading, writing and maths. I have subject leadership experience across maths, computing, PE and languages and have been lucky enough to work in some amazing teams that have pushed towards the OFSTED outstanding mark.

I have a proven track record of developing positive classroom environments that focus on developing relationships that foster excellent learning behaviours for improved academic and social outcomes.

I have recently taken the decision to leave classroom education in order to find a better work-life balance, one that allows me to give more to what matters most to me, my family.

However, I remain passionate about learning and helping others to develop what matters most to them, their family.
